  • I proposed this idea to President Obama in 2009 at the time of TARP - I called it TERP - The Troubled Employment Relief Program - because not all the money from TARP was being spent. I even got an acknowledgement from President Obama that said, "we are taking it under advisement".

  • While this is encouraging, the problem is that a lot of the data that comes from job boards is misleading. Job boards re-circulate job openings, kind of like a game of Hot Potato (they may even make some up). In other words, firing hasn't accelerated, but neither has hiring.

  • I don't get it.  Why the bleak headline?  There's a lot of really good stuff in this article besides Verizon workers going on strike and collecting unemployment (which to me sounds counterintuitive because anyone who quits is not entitled to unemployment).

  • The same thing happened to me at Citibank - but not before they increased my interest rate from 11.9% to 29.9% - and my monthly payments from $500 to $700 - and the only way I could keep my old rate was by closing my account.
